CASE STUDY 4

HEALING TRAUMA THROUGH REGRESSION

This young client came to me because she was dealing with physical pain and she felt she was  disconnected from her emotions.  She had been in a car accident several years prior and had almost died.  She had lost her memory of the accident and of the two weeks after.  She had tried to reconstruct the course of events, but all the accounts were conflicting.  Police reports, witness accounts and memories.  It was a traumatic event for her and everyone around her.  No one could remember things clearly.

We did a series of sessions, where she regressed to the moment of the accident.  She was able to go through it moment by moment, re-experiencing what happened during and after the accident.  It was a near death experience, very similar to the one’s described in Raymond Moody’s classic book “Life After Life.”

The more she regained the memory of the events, the less she braced in life and the more she could feel.  she showed up to one session in tears.  She looked at me and said, “Look, I’m crying.  I’m feeling.  This is good, right?”

By the time we had finished our work together, her range of emotions had expanded and rather than bracing against life, she was able to embrace it such that she and her boyfriend got married and had twins in the same year.
